Delran Township, New Jersey is governed by a Mayor-Council system, which is based on the Faulkner Act. The Mayor is the executive branch, while the Township Council is the legislative branch. [12

 

Mayor [3

  • Enforces ordinances, the Charter, and general laws 

  • Supervises all township departments 

  • Recommends a budget to the Council 

  • Prepares an annual report to the Council and public 

Township Council Adopts ordinances, Adopts the municipal budget, Establishes salaries, Approves contracts, and Advises the Mayor on policy. [24

 

Business Administrator Administers day-to-day operations, Supervises department directors, and Supports the Mayor in preparing the budget. [4

 

Municipal Clerk [5

  • Attends all Township Council meetings 

  • Keeps minutes of all meetings 

  • Keeps ordinances and resolutions, which are available to the public 

Elections [1

  • The Mayor and Council are elected in partisan elections in even-numbered years 

  • Terms are staggered, with three ward seats up for election every two years, and the other two seats and the mayor's seat up for election two years later
